Theme – “From the Block to the Board Room: We Endeavor to See Black Men Go From Surviving to Thriving” TM
Event Details:
Date: March 22nd and 23rd
Location: The Point College Prep and Leadership Academy, Jamestown, NC
Audience: Black males of all ages and boys ages 12 and up in Guilford County
Goals:
1. Raise Awareness:
– Shed light on the challenges faced by black males in Guilford.
– Foster understanding and empathy within the community.
2. Platform for Sharing:
– Provide a safe space for black males to share their stories and experiences.
– Amplify their voices and perspectives.
3. Solutions Development:
– Collaborate to find actionable solutions to the challenges black males encounter.
– Address critical focus areas.
Summit Focus Areas:
1. Education and Workforce Development:
– Empower black men through education and skill-building.
– Bridge gaps in access and opportunity.
2. Health and Wellness:
– Promote physical and mental well-being.
– Address health disparities.
3. Community Violence Intervention and Interruption:
– Develop strategies to reduce violence and create safer neighborhoods.
– Engage with law enforcement, community leaders, and organizations.
4. Economic Empowerment:
– Explore pathways to financial stability and entrepreneurship.
– Encourage economic growth within the black community.
5. Fatherhood and Fatherlessness:
– Celebrate positive fatherhood role models.
– Address challenges faced by absent fathers.

7:05 – 7:15 pm – Why Are We Here? (Reggie Holiday)
7:15 – 7:20 pm – Recognize Steering and Advisory Committee (Reggie Holiday)
7:20 – 7:35 pm – Remarks from Local Top Government Officials (Proclamations) (Frank Thomas)
7:35-7:45 pm – Acknowledge other officials, community and faith leaders, sponsors, and volunteers (Odell Cleveland)
7:45 pm – Introduction of Panelists and Panel Discussion (Chip Rice)
Discussion format:
Opening: (10 minutes) The Moderator introduces the panelists and sets the stage for the conversation.
Topic exploration: (40 minutes) Each panelist shares their unique perspective on the following (8 minutes or less):
-Challenges faced by Black men in Guilford County: Consider age-specific challenges like navigating education, finding mentorship, or dealing with systemic bias.
-Opportunities for success and advancement: Discuss available resources, support networks, and personal and professional growth paths.
-Advice for young Black men: Each panelist offers their insights and
encouragement to the younger generation
Audience Q&A: (25 minutes) The Moderator facilitates questions from the audience, allowing for further exploration and engagement.
Closing remarks: (5 minutes) Moderator summarizes vital points, offers
resources, and leaves the audience with a call to action.
